One of the many fears of most people today is the scenario of lining up by a dental clinic door for a checkup or for a cure. In truth, what is more appalling for some is having to wait for their turn to have a root canal therapy which is one of the most painful treatments in the world of dental and oral health.

The Treatment In A Nutshell

This is basically the removal of pulp and its replacement with a substance that will keep it from possibilities of future infections. The pulp is the combination of blood vessels and nerves which gives life to each of our teeth. They are found inside the root canals.

More often than not, pulps get infected by severe tooth decay. When the infection gets acute, endodontics or root canal treatment is advised. The aim of this process is to preserve any infected tooth from getting totally destructed so as to keep its whole appearance. While modern technology makes it possible, there are instances when tooth extraction is the only applicable procedure to be performed.

It is often advised by specialists that teeth which have undergone the root canal therapy must be crowned. For one, these teeth are a lot weaker than the healthier teeth since they already lost that essential part that keeps them alive. In support to the crowning practice, studies show that crowns are capable of preserving teeth for a lifetime.

Common Root Canal Treatment Concerns

The following are some questions that most patients have in mind as they consider undergoing the procedure.

1) Is it costly? Yes. They are costly in general.

2) Is it painful? It used to be a painful procedure years ago. But there are now advanced methods like the use of anesthesia that can make it totally painless.

3) Can it cause other diseases? There were early studies which showed that root canal complications can cause arthritis, heart disease and kidney disease. No matter how right they seem, none of them were proven true.

4) How do I know that my teeth need it? Dentists would definitely not know from a simple checkup the depth of damage in your teeth. When it comes to evaluating the need for such process, percussion testing and use of a pulp vitality machine are two of the things that could be done.

5) Does it entail a series of procedures? It all actually depends on the each patient’s case. Some may be able to complete the entire treatment in two meetings while some may need more appointments for that matter. In general, extent of infection and hardness of the root canal are the two common factors that may prolong your personal treatment.

Root canal therapy is a revolutionary way to preserve your teeth and bring back your perfect smile not only for a few months but for a lifetime. Excluding its relatively high cost and maybe the length of treatment you are to undergo, it is definitely a lifesaver to anyone’s teeth.

Most people believe that only those aiming for a spot in show business are the only patrons of cosmetic dentistry procedures. Well, this could be a half-truth as it is not only for the improvement of one’s appearance.

Another notion that comes with it is that its non-essential because of the word cosmetic which is often coined with the word luxury. Again, this may not be necessarily true. For example, correcting the gaps between teeth can aid anyone having troubles chewing their food. The improvement in appearance only comes as a by-product and not the main goal of the teeth correction. Now, can you say that it is unimportant? I think not.

Cosmetic dentistry then could be as important as general dentistry. In fact, they could work hand in hand. Say a regular dentist fixes a damaged set of teeth. A cosmetic dentist, then, brings back their natural shine after the cure. Isn’t this a great match after all.

Cosmetic dental treatment includes quite varied measures. They come in the most common forms like teeth alignment, teeth cleaning, teeth whitening and teeth filling. Besides these, it provides solution for malformed and broken slash chipped teeth and gives provision for helpful tooth wear.

These solutions are expected to work for the patient’s advantage for a long time. Regular dentists, in general, are capable of providing only short live fixes which need to be redone through time. If you do not want to experience such a hassle, you can turn to cosmetic dentists who can help you with long-lasting fixes. Should you be a person who has low threshold for pain, you need not fret as most treatments you will have are painless. Thanks to the contribution of technology to modern-day dentistry that procedures now can be done with precision that there is no room for any side effects like swollen gums and other post procedure infections.

Cosmetic dentistry procedures may cost more than the common dental procedures which you can receive from your local dentist. While this becomes a big turn off for a number of people who finds interest in it, it is regarded as a good form of investment by some. This is because the benefits any patient could get from them are priceless and for a lifetime.

Your teeth’s condition (which shows when you smile) impacts the impression of other people on you. With that, your confidence level may increase of decrease big time. Perhaps, you have lost your two front teeth to an accident. When you beam a smile to someone you know, it is but natural for him to get distracted such a sight. And you will never know what his reaction would be. You will never be able to control it either. This depicts why gapped, misshapen, or broken teeth can impact self-esteem.

While cosmetic dentistry procedures could be a personal choice for enhancement of appearance, it could mean improvement of one’s oral health. Their results are said to be long-lasting but certain habits like smoking and drinking must be avoided for better care of your new teeth.

Dental implants are available to anybody who needs them to cover any unsightly tooth losses. A popular option for many people is to go abroad for their dental implants because countries like the UK do not offer them as part of their public health system. This was outlined in 2011 on the official NHS website: “Dental implants and orthodontic treatment, such as braces, are available on the NHS, but only if there’s a medical need for the treatment.” However, other countries like the USA charge a hefty price for implants due to both the skill required in fitting them and the material used to create them in the first place.

The key to finding out exactly who can get these implants, though, can only be answered by finding out exactly what they are.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a type of artificial tooth replacement which is often used by dentists to help replace a damaged or lost tooth. A conventional implant will come in the form of a titanium screw which is designed to resemble a tooth root. Also, the titanium screw will either have a smooth or rough surface depending on the patient’s needs.

The type of material included in a typical implant is delved into in more detail by Arturo N. Natali in his book Dental Biomechanics, which was published in 2003 by Taylor & Francis: “Most conventional implants will be made out of pure titanium which can be obtained commercially; commercially pure titanium is generally found in four different grades, and the grades are defined by the amount of iron and carbon within.”

Who is the Ideal Patient?

Dental implants are ideal for those who want to replace missing teeth, and some people are even deciding to go abroad to avoid the high costs associated with these implants in the West. Sometimes, implants might also be used if a damaged tooth can’t be salvaged and the patient decides to remove the tooth prematurely.

Implants might also be used as an alternative to a dental bridge or dentures. In order to fit either of these there might be no option but to file down some of the adjacent teeth so your implants are fitted correctly; and this could seriously bring the health of these teeth into question in the future.

This sort of dental procedure might also be considered as a viable option for those who are having issues with dental bridges or dentures. For example, some people might find that their dental bridge keeps falling out so dental implants might be chosen instead

A dental holiday is a perfect option if you are looking to explore a new country whilst obtaining high-quality dental care without the extortionate costs found in many countries, such as in the US and the UK. Dental implants in El Salvador, Mexico, Thailand, and Hungary are popular options for patients because each of these countries have a proven track record when it comes to their dental work.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is made of titanium and shaped like a blunt screw – hence the use of the term “screw in teeth”. It is placed into the jawbone and serves as a secure root for the new tooth. Once in place, the implant can be used to attach different types of dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges or dentures.

1. Unfortunately, millions of people experience the difficulties associated with missing teeth, which can severely undermine their self-confidence and the quality of their life.

2. Missing teeth can compromise your health, eating habits, speech and appearance. Another serious result of tooth loss is the compromise to your facial structures.

3. When a tooth is lost, the bone that surrounded the tooth root reabsorbs, or melts away. When all the teeth are missing, the facial structures collapse as the jaw(s) deteriorate over time.

In extreme cases, people who wear dentures will choose to avoid social contact, make poor food choices, suffer from constant “denture sores” and may even experience depression.

4. The preferred method of tooth replacement by many are dental implants which act as substitute tooth roots. They form a stable foundation for permanent replacement teeth that look, feel and function like your natural teeth. The integration/success of the implant should be in excess of 95% in experienced hands.

5. Dental Implants can also keep the bone by providing the stimulation that was provided by the natural tooth roots, thereby maintaining the integrity of your facial structures.

6. There are many advantages of dental implant treatment over other treatment options. For instance, it is not necessary to grind down the adjacent teeth for a bridge, or secure a partial denture to the teeth with clasps that can eventually loosen them. By utilising dental implants, people who are missing all their teeth are spared the many problems associated with traditional false teeth.

Dental implants:

• Maintain the integrity of facial structures

• Do not destroy adjacent teeth

• Allow for superior long-term aesthetics

• Are the closest replacement possible to natural teeth

• Restore lost lip support and can minimise wrinkles around the mouth

• Are a stable and successful replacement teeth

• Eliminate the pain of ill-fitting partial and full-dentures

How Long Does it Take to Complete Treatment?

Dental implants preserve bone because they function like tooth roots, firmly embedded in the bone. In order for the implants to become embedded in the bone, the bone must bond to the implants. This process takes anywhere from one to three months, depending on the quality of the bone in which the implants are placed.

There are treatments other that do not take as much time to complete; however none of these traditional methods of tooth replacement preserve bone. In fact, dentures may actually accelerate the bone resorption process.

Taking care of your teeth is an important part of your overall health. While achieving the best oral hygiene starts at home with proper brushing and flossing, a dentist is also a crucial figure in maintaining dental health. Just as your doctor or general practitioner shoulders some of the responsibility of caring for your physical health, your dentist shoulders some responsibility for the health of your teeth and gums. As such, choosing a dentist should focus on a number of factors including location, cost, rapport, and qualifications.

Location

Ideally, your dentist will operate close to your work or home. You should be able to easily access your dentist when it comes to scheduling routine visits but also for emergency care. If you choose a dentist office that requires a considerable commute from your work or home, you will be less likely to make your regular checkups.

Cost

Not all dentists charge the same amount for services. As surprising as this information may be to you, it is the truth. If you are looking for a new dentist, you should also factor the cost of procedures, diagnostics, and checkups into your decision. It is not always the case that the best dentists charge the most so you should also be willing to consider recommendations from friends, colleagues, and family members. When you are first vetting potential dentists, don’t be afraid to get estimates for typical procedures such as fillings, crowns, and root canals.

Rapport

Ultimately, you want to have a comfortable relationship with your dentist. S/he should be professional, but friendly and should demonstrate an effective bedside manner. Your personal comfort is one of the most important determinants of your ability to work with a dentist. S/he should be able to answer your questions in a way you understand, s/he should be open to your questions about treatments and procedures, and you should feel like your dentists listens to and understands your concerns.

Professional Qualifications

Finally, your dentist should not only accommodate your needs when it comes to location, cost, and rapport, s/he should also have completed the necessary training. Without the right professional qualifications, your dentist is likely not licensed to provide dental care. Throughout most of Canada, with the exception of Quebec only, dentists must be certified to practice dentistry by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB). In order to be certified by the NDEB, dentists must have completed the proper education accredited by either the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) or the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.

In addition to the proper licenses and certification, your dental office should also have clear policies on infection control. Moreover, if you have any questions about the dentist’s office or staff, your questions should be met openly and honestly.

In the end, choosing a dentist is mostly about finding a qualified professional who meets your personal needs. Don’t be afraid to try different dentists; if you’re not satisfied you are always welcome to seek more appropriate alternatives.

You should consider the main advantages of the cosmetic procedures that can be performed on teeth.

Many patients come to cosmetic dentists because they are not happy with their smile. While regular dentists can help improve their dental health, such as with cleanings and fillings, cosmetic dentists can make the smile nearly perfect. People with chips or cracks in their teeth may be afraid to smile often since they know their teeth are not perfect. Those with yellow teeth or large gaps are also often nervous about smiling since many people notice these flaws right away. A cosmetic dentist can quickly improve the confidence of such patients, which can make a big difference in their mood.

Some people even end up making more money when their smile is fixed. For example, people who are in the public eye, such as models and actors, can further their career through cosmetic dentistry. They need to make sure their teeth are sparkling white, and free of stains or tiny chips. Even their fillings need to match the rest of their teeth, and cosmetic dentists can do all this and more.

In some cases, cosmetic dentistry procedures can even improve dental health. For instance, missing teeth can lead to infections, and can also make it hard to chew or talk properly. The jaw may even begin to cave in slightly, changing the facial structure. That means dental implants can do more than just fill in some gaps so the smile looks good. Cracked or broken teeth can also allow food to get trapped in the crevices, which means that getting these issues fixed can help avoid cavities and infections.

Many dental procedures that are considered cosmetic are so widespread that they are now much more affordable than they used to be. This means that the lack of full coverage from insurance is not a deal breaker for many patients. In addition, many cosmetic dentists now offer payment plans and cash discounts so that patients can easily afford procedures, even when they do not have the money upfront. This has made many options, including veneers and teeth whitening, more accessible to everyone over the years.

If you are considering getting some cosmetic treatment for your teeth, you should talk to a cosmetic dentist to find out the details. Many offer free consultations where you can discuss your expectations, and the practitioner can give you some advice on the treatment you need. You can also find out whether your insurance provider will cover the costs, and if not, you will need to find out the prices. Of course, you should ask about financing and discounts before agreeing to pay a particular amount. Then you can see firsthand how cosmetic dental procedures can benefit you.

Waverley Family Dental is a popular eastern suburbs dentist in Sydney. Like many family dental practices they also offer cosmetic dentistry services like teeth whitening in addition to general dental health maintenance.

Dental implant surgery shows a high success rate of up to 95%. Majority of the patients who have chosen to undergo this procedure are found to be happy with their replacements and their new set of teeth. Therefore, implants show to be the best solution to the problem of missing teeth – trumping over bridges and dentures. However, even if dental restorations prove to be the best, there are instances when dental implant surgery pain and problems arise.

Though dental implant surgery pain occurs, it is very rare. Some of the common causes of dental implant surgery pain are fractures implants, rejected implants, poor implant placement, incorrect positioning, and low quality implants used.

One of the main reasons for tooth implant problems is that the implant failed to fuse together with the jawbone. This is called failure to osseointegrate. If there isn’t enough amount of jawbone to fuse with or the bone has been infected, it can lead to failure to fuse with the implant.

Too much stress or overloading can cause implant fracture. Incorrect position can also cause implant fracture.

A person who has the habit of smoking or heavy drinking can compromise the success of the surgery. Moreover, this can lead to other problems such as implant fracture or gum disease.

What Causes Dental Implant Rejection?

There are several causes of dental implant rejection. These includes are insufficient bone to fuse, infection, stress, and habitual grinding of teeth during sleep called bruxism. Poor dental hygiene can also lead to dental implant surgery pain and implant rejection.

When there is insufficient bone to fuse, usually the patient is subjected to bone grafting to increase the available jawbone. However, some patients are hesitant to undergo this procedure which is why they try to find other ways to get the implant without grafting. If the dentist recommends bone grafting, make sure that you follow the advice.

If the implant doesn’t fuse properly into the jawbone, the implant can move and be dislocated. This can cause discomfort and pain. If this happens, a new type of implant should be used or a new restoration should be attached into the implant. In some cases, bone grafting may be required.

Infection can be caused by contamination during surgery. In some instances, bacteria can already be hiding in the jawbone and causes dental implant surgery pain afterwards.

Stress on teeth can also cause the fixture to fail. Too much stress can lead to overloading. In this instance, it fails and the adjacent teeth may be compromised.

People often don’t find the need to consult a dentist unless there’s a problem that needs immediate attention. And such a dentist is often chosen after searching the phone book. But there are better ways to look for a dentist in your area, here are some:

The Search:

The Academy of General Dentistry website helps people by listing out dentists registered under them. All you have to do is to enter the zip code, or city, or the state. You can also mention the maximum distance which the dentist is to be located. Friends, family members and co workers can also help you in the process. You family GP can also guide to the right dentist. Of course, the telephone book is also the right source; you can look for them under the title ‘dentists’ or ‘associations’.

The Process:

Not all dentists are created equal and perform the same operations. While some undertake simple procedures like relieving pain, and pulling teeth, there are others who specialize in cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening, dental implants, etc. And there are others that specialize in orthodontics and teeth straightening. The dentist that you choose should specialize in the procedure that you are looking for. For instance, it is common for general dentists to advertise for cosmetic dentistry. But only a specialist who has undergone training in this aspect can help you with specialized projects like dental implants, veneers and bonding. And if you are looking to straighten your teeth, only orthodontics can help you out. If you are already consulting a dentist, he can help you get in touch with these specialists.

Needless to say, do not commit to the first dentist that you speak to. You can ask him about his office hours, the distance from your home or office to his office, provisions for emergencies, presence of dental plans etc. Some dental professionals use modern techniques like digital x-rays, 3D imaging, and CEREC instead of old and outdated technology that is painful and time consuming.

Be Aware of:

Most dentists offer a free no obligations consultation. Before you agree to the treatment, do not proceed unless the dentist explains clearly about the problem, the course of the treatment, and the estimation of the costs. Dentists are more than willing to share information on the process and procedure; and also suggest an action plan.

These are just some of the things to be mindful of, before choosing a dentist.

A person’s oral cavity is made up of teeth that each have a small canal in them. This chamber is in the center and it contains the pulp that has the nerves and tissues that give the tooth life. Trauma or decay of the tooth can result to inflammation, an abscess, or its slow death. There are several reasons for this to happen and the more common ones are damage to the tooth such as cracks, breaks, and dislodgement that may have disconnected the root. A dentist, who specializes in endodontics, can easily assess the situation through a thorough examination of the oral cavity and its teeth.

The procedure may take several visits to the specialist. Endodontics can be a lengthy process because an abscess or an inflammation should be treated before the root canal is started. This is because they come in stages.

The first stage being installation of a small latex dam around the affected molar or whichever has a problem. This dam helps to keep the saliva out and the chemicals and other treatments inside of the area. The idea is to keep it isolated and dry to help make the procedure easier and faster. A small hole will then be drilled right into the pulp chamber through the top to facilitate the evacuation of its contents. Once the dentist is satisfied with the hole, removal of the tissues and nerves will commence. The specialist will use machine wielded or manual files to remove the contents of the pulp chamber. He has to make sure that the hole is thoroughly cleaned and there is nothing left inside or debris can start an infection or another problem.

A rubber seal is placed in the dry hole. This helps to fill the hole and keep any bacteria out. A filling may be used to fill out the necessary ridges, natural curves and niche of a tooth. A crown may be recommended to cover it up and make it stronger. In many instances, the placement of a crown is the job of a cosmetic dentist, not an endodontics specialist.

Endodontics can really help to make a person’s oral cavity better. Accidents can happen and damage teeth resulting in the need for the root canal procedure. The treatment can be expensive since it is a lengthy process that can take an hour or so for every visit. There may also be other problems that are centered on this particular area of the oral cavity, but other dentists can assess these, as well as a specialist. A general dentist will recommend his patient go to the specialist to make sure that he or she gets the necessary care that the patient needs and deserves.

One field that has shown so much innovation and improvement is that of dentistry. More particularly, a cosmetic dentist can provide so many beneficial improvements to a smile that it can that really change a person’s life. Consider how many people hold back from really laughing or from getting a warm smile simply because they are self-conscious of their teeth. No matter what the condition of your teeth, a cosmetic dentist can repair them and give you $1 million smile to allow you to be yourself and stop hiding who you really are.

A person can have different types of work done on their teeth, such as bonding or porcelain veneers, straightening teeth, bleaching, and much more. The latter is one of the most common procedures undergone by patients in dentist offices. Typically, it is quite an affordable procedure that can make you look years younger simply by having a whiter and brighter smile. Another common procedure is known as teeth reshaping, which can be performed in one visit. In such a procedure, the cosmetic dentist would basically remove some of the enamel to make for a more attractive tooth. For instance, some teeth may be longer than others, and simply by filing them down, a person can have a more attractive smile. The same procedure is used for correcting some crooked teeth. In some cases, it can also be used in place of braces, providing instant results at a more affordable rate, too.

Another very popular procedure is bonding, where special material is applied directly onto the surface of the teeth, carefully sculpted for a perfect appearance, allowed to harden and finally polished.

Veneers are basically porcelain laminates bonded on to the teeth. They can do wonders to yellowed teeth that do not improve with bleaching procedures. More often than not, tooth reduction is a necessity to provide the individual with the best results. Veneers are usually responsible for the ever popular perfect Hollywood smiles seen on celebrities. Although not an inexpensive solution by far, is one that can provide a person a boost in self-esteem like nothing else.

A cosmetic dental procedure known as a gum lift can also provide some astonishing improvements to one’s smile. As a result of reshaping the underlying bones, a cosmetic dentist can make teeth look more symmetrical and longer.

The field of cosmetic dentistry has certainly come a long way thanks to technology. Today’s dental work is made to look as close to a natural tooth as possible, mostly because of the materials used. While in the past, different metals refused in dental work and simply veneered with porcelain, today they are comprised of composite materials or even completely made of porcelain. With the help of resin adhesives, these materials are bonded right onto teeth for smile that not only looks real, but also extremely attractive.

Anyone who has ever felt insecure about showing his or her teeth can certainly benefit from one or more of the above procedures. Having said that, it is often one’s financial status that would stand in the way of having this work done. In truth, most are not inexpensive procedures, sometimes costing thousands of dollars. However, given all the benefits that a beautiful smile can bring someone, it may be worthwhile to actually make this investment. Consider how different you would feel if you did not feel it necessary to put your hand in front of your mouth every time you wanted to laugh. Consider how much happier and more confident you would be about yourself if you could flash your pearly whites without any care in the world. Talk to your cosmetic dentist for any suggestions he or she may have for you.

A cosmetic dentist can provide a long lasting solution for all your tooth problems in a painless way. The author is an expert in the dental field and has written many articles regarding implant dentistry and cosmetic dentistry in the past.
